Mole Removal Or Mole Treatment, Which Is Best?
A mole is an over growing of coloured tissues in the epidermis. Many moles may be black in color or the same color as the nearby epidermis. There was a time when moles could only be handled operatively. This entailed the mole being cut out of the epidermis and the process often left scarring damage.Today we can treat skin moles non operatively using diathermy. Observe I say we can "treat" moles rather than remove them. So what exactly is the distinction betweenmole removal? Both mole treatment and mole removal should result in the mole no longer being noticeable.Mole removal involves the mole being operatively cut from the epidermis.Mole treatment involves the epidermis being cauterised using diathermy so that the mole is no longer noticeable. This is an important distinction because officially the mole is still there, it's just that you cannot see it any more. The diathermy strategy can be used to treat the mole if it is raised or flat. Once treated, the mole will be smooth and level with the nearby epidermis. The ...
... mole is made up of cells known as melanocytes. These melanocytes are accountable for generating melanin, the black color in our epidermis. The moles are often black is because they contain a concentration of this type of cell. Diathermy decreases or even absolutely removes the melanocyte tissues in the epidermis therefore the mole loses it's black colouration. So which method is best, mole removal or treatment? If the factors are simply cosmetic and aesthetic then diathermy may be the best remedy. Surgery treatment can as I have already said cause scarring so if the problem is simply aesthetic then diathermy may be a better choice in this case. However there are some situations when surgical procedures are the only choice you should look at. If the mole reveals any symptoms of cancer then it should be eliminated operatively. If your physician thinks the mole is cancer then surgery will performed. If you are considering mole removal your GP should be your first stop. Your GP will be able to tell by looking at it and asking a few questions whether it is safe to treat it cosmetically using diathermy or whether it needs eliminating using surgery and testing for melanoma. Generally moles that grow bigger, suffer itchiness, hemorrhage are suspect and your GP may relate you to a skin specialist for further investigation. However, some moles may not be skin moles at all. Seborheic keratosis is often wrongly thought of as being a mole. but it is not. Seborheic keratosis affects only the top layer of the skin or the epidermis and is absolutely harmless and easily eliminated using diathermy.
