The challenges people with hearing loss face are numerous.

Not the least among them is listening to directions in a subway booth, hearing a sermon in a church, or a talk by an academic in an open hall in a campus.

The good news is the Hearing Loss Association of America along with the American Academy of Audiology is now promoting a new technology called “hearing loop.” It may be too early to read many reviews of hearing aids made with this new technology, but the fact is this new “hearing loop” is all set to create a revolutionary transformation to the way people with hearing loss can now listen.

What Is This New Technology About?

The digital aids available today do a good job of enhancing hearing in conversational settings. But for those with hearing loss the sounds are unclear in a noisy setting or when any communication is voiced over loudspeakers at a distance.

In such situations, a hearing loop magnetically transfers the microphone sound signal to hearing aids or cochlear implants that have a small telecoil receiver. The signals are transformed into in-the-ear loudspeakers that ...
... deliver customized enhanced sound to the consumer.

How Does This System Work?

This system converts magnetic signals into clear sounds, a feature helpful for wearers to hear clearly in open and noisy spaces.

The system has three elements.

• A microphone to pick up the spoken word
• An amplifier that process the signal
• The induction loop, typically a wire placed around the periphery of a room to act as an antenna that radiates the magnetic signal to the hearing aids worn by people.

The hearing aid has a “T” switch that activates an embedded telecoil which converts magnetic signals into sound by isolating distracting background noise.

Fortunately, the “hearing loop” can also serve people who do not have hearing aids or telecoils. These loops come with headsets and portable receivers.

Are Hearing Loops Expensive?

As per reviews of hearing aids they are reasonably priced. A few hundred dollars are enough for self installation in a TV room of one’s home and a few thousand dollars would suffice for for professional installation in a moderately sized auditorium.

Some may say this is an old technology, but actually it isn’t. It is now in a newly developed form with better amplifier and telecoil technologies and more advanced computer aided designs for complex installations.
Luckily reviews of hearing aids models report that nearly 70 percent of models come with telecoils compatible with hearing loop inputs.

This is certainly good news for millions of Americans who have perceptible hearing loss in either one or both ears.

The affordable hearing aid prices continue to make life easier for millions of people with hearing loss. Visit Hearingaidsreview.com and read some reviews of hearing aids.
