Hemorrhoids And Yoga: Unique Treatment For Your Hemorrhoid

Hemorrhoids and yoga are not a usual pair. The two sound weird together. Before relating the two to each other, let us first define each individually. Hemorrhoids are cushion-like structures found surrounding the anus. Hemorrhoids, in their healthy state, aid in controlling stool passage. But with constant pressure and stress on these hemorrhoids, they become pathological and cause pain to an individual. There are two types of pathological hemorrhoids; internal and external. The former involves visceral nerves of the anus and/or rectum. Often times, these are painless but are accompanied with bleeding. Meanwhile, the latter involves somatic nerves of the anus and/or rectum. External hemorrhoids are very painful.

Yoga, on the other hand, is a physical, spiritual and mental discipline from India. Yoga is widely used in different religions like Buddhism, Jainism, Hinduism and Sikhism. It is included in the six schools of Hindu Philosophy. Based on Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, its main goal is to attain spiritual tranquility and insight.

Now you may wonder, what is the connection between hemorrhoids and yoga? Well, did ...
... you know that yoga can treat hemorrhoids? There are a lot of yoga positions that can help in the treatment of the disease.

One of these positions is called forward folds. To do this position, stand up with your feet together. Bend your waist forward and slowly reach your toes. As you bend forward, squeeze your abs inwards. This will protect your back from damage. As you do this, breathe deeply through your nose. Hold the position for around five seconds and slowly stand up. Do this around two to four times. Forwards folds will relieve tension in the thighs, hips and hamstrings. It will also improve blood circulation..

Another helpful yoga position is the supported shoulder stands, also called as candle pose. According to the article ‘Natural remedies for Hemorrhoids’ published in the ‘Yoga Journal’, this position is helpful in treating hemorrhoids. Aside from that, it improves liver function. It also improves blood circulation in the lower extremities. It also has the capability to improve the immune system.

To do this position, you need to add two blankets to your yoga mat. Fold the blankets and place them on top of your mat. Blankets need to be added for safety. The regular yoga mat is too thin for this position; it may cause damage to the vertebrae. To go about this position, lie supine on the mat. Make sure your neck and head is on the mat while your upper back is placed on the blankets. Slowly bring your legs up, point it towards the ceiling. While doing this, gradually lift your hips off the mat. Place your hands near your lower back and/or hips for body support. Extend your feet up until the body is perpendicular from the floor. Hold this position until you can. Gradually lower your feet and place it flat on the mat.

Hemorrhoids and yoga may seem completely disconnected. But with the aforementioned yoga positions, it is a clear proof that there is substantial evidence that yoga can help treat hemorrhoids.
