In a recent study done by the American Dental Association, it was discovered that Americans have very poor oral hygiene. Dentists and proper oral care aren’t being prioritized by Americans these days as the study revealed that in a ratio of 10, 9 adults have cavities while half of the kids whose age ranges from 2 to 11 are already suffering from damages on their milk teeth.

Shocking isn’t it? Even the ADA president was dazed by the results and he’s used to these kinds of studies. Obviously modern day Americans don’t value their teeth. Some people brush their teeth in the morning only for the purpose of doing away with the morning breathe and then again at night so they wouldn’t wake up with morning breathe still.

But oral hygiene and a regular visit to your Chandler dentist at least every six months is important to the well-being of your body. Dental visits shouldn’t just be limited to when there’s a problem and most importantly when the problem is already critical.

Over all physical health

Dental care is closely related to our health as a whole. For one thing, when our teeth are infected ...
... and this is neglected, with its close proximity to the brain, the bacteria can spread towards it and cause disorientation, seizure and worst case scenario death.

Second, gum diseases cause heart attacks, strokes and throat infection. Plaque in the gum can circulate in the body through the blood and this is what causes these serious ailments.

Nipping it in the bud

Most often we don’t know if we have cavities already or our tooth is infected and pus is already accumulating in the gums. Although we could develop fever when the infection is serious, often, our body has a defense mechanism that we could barely feel it. A visit to your favorite Chandler dentist can check if such a thing is happening, or even, nip the situation in the bud if it’s only starting.

Tooth decay, which we also don’t usually notice can also be prevented by having your teeth checked by the dentist. In those times, a filling can be immediately placed to stop the spread of the cavity to the rest of the teeth.

Dental implants

People with dentures are also encouraged to go on regular visit to the dentist for proper management. Because dental implants are false they would sometimes look awkward in your mouth as well as an abnormality may need the medical attention of a dentist.

Teeth cleaning

Teeth cleaning, not just for the purpose of making the teeth shiny again, are encouraged to be done at least twice a year. This can prevent plaque from accumulating in the gums and hardening. These plaques can also irritate the gums and develop into cavity. And then there’s the all-important prevention of halitosis when we get our teeth professionally cleaned that cannot be done by brushing and flossing alone.

So don’t be one of those 9 in 10 Americans who failed badly in the oral hygiene department. Have your teeth checked already for your own well-being. And not just to prevent bad breath.
