For millions across the world, Landscape Mulch is a source of tremendous relaxation and satisfaction. For amateur and professional alike, the thrill of seeing a well planned flower bed bloom or a tree enjoy its first blossom is one of the most rewarding experiences they can get. With this in mind, gardeners go to great lengths to prepare their plants for planting, and make numerous decisions to ensure their trees and flowers have the best chance of survival once they’re in the ground.

Unfortunately, the one thing gardeners can’t control is the weather, which is the one element that has the greatest effect on plant growth. Plants are very sensitive organisms, especially while they’re growing, and gardeners therefore need to take measures to ensure that their plant’s environment is as stable as possible, especially in climates where weather conditions can vary greatly.

This is why mulch is becoming an increasingly important part of a gardener’s arsenal. For those that don’t know, mulch is a layer of organic material that ...
... is laid over the topsoil when a plant is put in the ground, and it protects newly planted and existing plant features in a number of ways.

A layer of mulch greatly inhibits the growth and germination of weeds, giving existing plants much less competition for resources and reducing the chances of them being overwhelmed. Mulch also acts to defend plant life from extremes of temperature – by creating a protective layer around plants it protects their bases and roots from the worst of the elements. Of course, mulch doesn’t have to be used exclusively for planting, it can also be used to cover unsightly of problematic areas, as well as be used more generally on open areas to nourish the soil.

While almost anything organic, from shredded paper to hay and straw can be used as mulch, when working on larger scale projects, gardeners tend to use a form of mulch known as landscape mulch. Again, this type of mulch can come in several forms, but usually gardeners tend to use wood and bark chip mulch for their landscape projects. Not only is wood chip mulch much more aesthetically pleasing than other mulches like shredded paper or grass cuttings, but it provides among the most effective and durable cover.

Wood chip and bark mulch is also so appealing to landscape gardeners because it is also particularly flexible in terms of its pH level. This flexibility comes in very useful because different soils have different pH levels and certain plants react differently depending on the acidity of their environment. Landscape gardeners can now tailor their wood chip landscape mulch to a specific pH, allowing them to far more closely control the environment their plants exist in.

While on small scale domestic projects it’s relatively simple to distribute mulch by hand, when dealing with large landscapes such as parks, playgrounds and larger gardens, it’s extremely impractical to attempt to distribute mulch manually. Not only does it take much longer to do, but it is increasingly difficult to put down a proper mulch layer, or cover hillsides and hard to reach areas. Fortunately, there are companies like Blow It All (http://www.blowitall.com.au/companyproducts.html) who can offer gardeners both professional advice and the benefit of their bark blower technology, saving gardeners time and money.
