Madurai is one of the most popular temple towns of South India. Located on the banks of the river Vaigai, Madurai is a part of Tamil Nadu, and has been in existence for over 2000 years.

Of the numerous temples that adorn the nooks and corners of the city, the Madurai Meenakshi Temple ( Meenakshi Amman Kovil) is the most unique and most famous. People come to Madurai to visit its temples as well as to wonder at the architectural wealth displayed by these structures.

Kodaikanal is a panoramic hill station in South India, placed in the state of Tamil Nadu. Situated at an altitude of about 7200 ft above the sea level, Kodaikanal is called the princess of Hill station owing to its unparalleled beauty and natural splendour. People from all walks of life come to Kodaikanal to unwind and rejuvenate. There are many natural attractions in Kodaikanal like the Berijam Lake, Coaker’s Walk, Green Valley View (which was earlier known as Suicide Point), Pillar Rocks, Devil’s Kitchen, Guna Caves, waterfalls like silver cascade and Pine Forest among others.

... In fact travelling by road is the most common and cheapest mode of travel between the two locations. There are numerous buses running on this route so that one need not unduly worry about the schedules. These buses are operated by government as wells as private operators. The ticket cost will vary according to the type of bus preferred – ordinary non A/C buses, deluxe and super deluxe, to name a few. Bus journeys are normally recommended to youngsters and lone backpackers.

Hiring a taxi is also an excellent means of travel from Madurai to Kodaikanal. Tough a bit heavy on the pockets, taxis gives more comfort and flexibility to the guests opting for them. Hiring a taxi is the ideal way to travel from Madurai to Kodaikanal, especially of one is travelling with family consisting of elders and kids.

As Kodaikanal doesn’t have a railway station of its own, travelling by train is rather complicated. One has to get down at the Kodaikanal Road (80 km from Kodaikanal) station and then proceed by car to bus. The Kodai Road station is at a mere 40 km from Madurai and hence it does not
make much of a difference if one opts for a train. From Kodai road station, numerous taxis and buses are available to reach Kodaikanal. The drive will take around three hours. Hence, nearly all travellers prefer to travel by bus or taxi from Madurai instead of journeying to Kodai Road by train and then use the road transport to reach the destination.
