How To Travel From Coimbatore To Ooty

A beautiful hill station situated close to Coimbatore is Ooty, one of the most sought after hill stations in south India. Popular since the times when British occupied the region owing to its salubrious climate all year round, Ooty is perched at an altitude of 2286 m nestled amidst the beautiful Nilgiri Hills, also called the blue mountains owing to the abundance of the blue neelakurinji flowers.

Doddabetta Peak, which is a much sought after trekking destination in Southern India is also situated close to Ooty. The entire region is fringed by mountains ranges that are covered in a thick carpet of vegetation. Many of these peaks are favoured adventure destinations among adrenalin junkies. Coimbatore to Ooty is a journey that is frequented by many nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts for its lush greenery and many avenues of adventure activities.

Exotic green tea plantations, cascading waterfalls and a wide variety of flora cover the entire landscape of Ooty. Spice plantations also form an important attraction to Ooty's landscape. The region is also famous for its oil extraction from eucalyptus tree, plants like ...
... lemongrass and geranium. The Toy Train ride from Kallar to Ooty is another high point of Ooty's attractions. The journey takes tourists on a spectacular ride along one of the most scenic routes passing through high and low hills that are lush with green vegetation. The train is pulled by a steam engine and passes along a narrow gauge track at a rather slow pace which allows one to enjoy the scenery to heart’s content. Other popular tourist attractions in Ooty are Ooty Lake, Deer Park, Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary, the Rose Garden, Ooty Botanical Garden and the Stone House. The Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary, a national park and tiger reserve also draws a large number of tourists to it.

The distance from Coimbatore to Ooty is 103 km which can be easily covered by various modes of transport. Most common and popular mode of transport has to be the train journey. This train journey like any other train journey is very convenient and comfortable, but another attraction for this journey is the scenic route through which it passes.

Coimbatore to Ooty can also be traversed by road which is another excellent way of travelling. The journey by road takes about an hour and is a very scenic drive through winding roads up and down several hills that are flanked on both sides by rich vegetation. Some of the major towns through which this route passes through are Kanjikode, Nemmara and Ooty. Cabs can also be hired to reach Ooty charging in the range of INR 15 to 30 depending upon the vehicle chosen.
