Udaipur is a picturesquely beautiful city situated in the royal state of Rajasthan in India. The city of Udaipur is famous all over the world for its spectacular lakes and earned the name City of Lakes because it is full of pristine lakes that dominate the topography of the region. The city came into existence in the year 1559 and is named after its founder, Maharana Udai Singh II. It served as the capital of the kingdom of Mewar.

It is situated in the Aravalli Ranges and the geographical setting of the land make the city all the more charming and beautiful. The city also exemplifies the richness of Rajasthani culture and tradition. Also there are many palaces and royal families in Udaipur till the present day that maintains the royal charm of the land till date.

The grandeur of the architecture can be witnessed at the City Palace, the largest palace complex in Rajasthan, which exhibits a unique mixture of Medieval, European and Chinese architecture. Situated at the centre of the Pichola Lake, the multi-storied Jag Mandir Palace is a spectacle in itself. Of late, many of these palaces have been converted into resort hotels, which provide the guests with a royal stay.

The Udaipur Solar Observatory situated in Fateh Sagar is used partly for the study of magnetic fields and forces in space. The largest fort of the country, Chittorgarh Fort, and the Kumbhalgarh Fort are some of the other famous forts of Udaipur. They act as the visible link between the present, and the rich historical past of the country.

Udaipur is accessible by land, air or train across several destinations spread across the country. It has the Dabok Airport, also known as the Maharana Pratap Airport which is located 24 km from the city. The city also has a widespread rail network with regular daily trains between Delhi and Udaipur and trains are considered to be the most accessible and cheapest mode of transport. Apart from air and rail, the city is also very well connected by road. Sitting midway on the famous Golden Quadrilateral, between Delhi and Mumbai, the National Highway 8 connects Delhi to Udaipur across a distance of 700 km making it apt for private journeys as well.

The city of Udaipur is a colourful and romantic town that make it one of the most sought after travel destination in India. It is like a clean, green attractive oasis in the Thar Desert area. Nominated as one of the best romantic towns in India, Udaipur has become a popular global tourist venue of the country.
