The Amazon kindle is the ideal device for reading eBooks. Unlike the Apple IPad, its battery life is measured in months, not hours, and its e-ink screen allows you to read in most light conditions with little eyestrain.

The Amazon kindle is the ideal device for reading eBooks. Unlike the Apple IPad, its battery life is measured in months, not hours, and its e-ink screen allows you to read in most light conditions with little eyestrain.

Unfortunately, the Amazon kindle is mostly limited to reading books, whilst it does have an experimental web browser it's very limited.

However, a service called KindleSend (free) allows you to do more than just read books brought from the Amazon Kindle store, it adds support for email, RSS feeds, webpage’s, and much more.

Kindle RSS Feeds
Kindle Send allows you to choose from a wide range of existing RSS news feeds or you can choose to add your own RSS feed. Kindle RSS news feeds are automatically downloaded, processed, and combined into a single document specifically formatted for reading on the Amazon kindle. The Kindle RSS feed is stored offline ...
... on your Kindle, so after downloading, an Internet connection is no longer required.

Kindle Newspapers
Do you read the newspaper? You can now get newspapers on the kindle, news from places like the Guardian, BBC News, Reuters, and more. Most of the big newspapers have subscriptions available in the Amazon store costing about $20 per month but if you use the KindleSend these subscriptions are free.

Kindle Email
The Kindle is not designed for writing documents, browsing the web, or reading email; it is designed for reading books. KindleSend changes that; it allows you to read email on your kindle. It will download the last 50 emails you received, combine them into a single document and format them specifically for the Kindle in a similar way to Amazon subscriptions. It doesn't allow you to send email, but it does allow you to read your email in foreign countries or just keep important messages with you.

Send webpage’s to your Kindle
You can also send the entire contents of a webpage to your kindle. Kindle Send removes any advertising/headers and sends you the core content of the page. It can also monitor the webpage for changes, so when a change is detected, the offline webpage on your Kindle is automatically updated.

FanFiction.Net on the Kindle
Apart from RSS feeds, email, & newspapers; integration with third-party content sources such as FanFiction.Net and Instapaper are also supported with new third-party providers been added all the time. For FanFiction.Net, your FanFiction.Net account is used to send all the stories in your favorite stories list to your kindle; stories are monitored for updates and any updates are sent to your Kindle as they are detected.

Scheduled Kindle RSS Deliveries
You can control how and when Kindle RSS, email, & news are sent to your Kindle. If you leave home at 7am, you can set things up to update your Kindle at 6:30am, so that your latest RSS, email, & news are ready and waiting to be read during your commute to work and because everything is stored offline as a snapshot, you don't need an active internet connection allowing you to read on the train/tube etc.
