Understanding About Krill Oil
Most of us know that krill comes from the ocean and serves as food for a number of marine animals including whales. It’s easy to describe what krill are: shrimp looking creatures which measure less than 6 centimeters long. The ocean is a big pool of thousands of marine species, and a majority of us have very little knowledge about this creature, let alone see one in the wild. But aside from being a form of sustenance to some marine animals, krill can also benefit humans through krill oil.
We are all familiar with fish oil capsules since some of us have been taking them as supplements; but a new type of oil is being used for its numerous benefits.
Krill Oil may be better than Fish Oil
Krill and Fish oil all come from the same source, the ocean. Both of them also contain eicosapentanoic acid (EPA) and docosahexanoic acid (DHA), which are both Omega 3 fatty acids. The only difference is in the molecular structure, krill oil hooks up these fatty acids in a different form resulting to a more diverse structure which ...
... helps it making it more effective than fish oil. According to a research done by the McGill University, Krill Oil proves to be more potent and effective compared to Fish Oil. Comparing a daily dose of both oils of the same amount, Krill Oil proves to be more effective in treating certain diseases.
Other important elements of Krill Oil
Aside from the fatty acids in Krill Oil, it also contains astaxanthin which is an antioxidant which help protect the body from various free radicals. You can easily spot if a marine animal or crustacean has this antioxidant since it gives marine animals their red color. Aside from Omega 3, Krill Oil also contains Omega 6 and 9. Omega 6 contains linoleum acid and is also found in a lot of oils used for cooking at home. Examples of oils which contain Linoleum acids include canola oil, vegetable oil, sunflower oil, and soybean oil. Omega 9 on the other hand is considered to be the easiest to get since it is highly abundant everywhere and is mostly found in olive oils and some vegetable oil. The triad of Omega 3 6 9 can work well on their own, and is more effective if taken all together
Harvesting Krill
Krill has been harvested before to be used as feed to some marine animals who are cared by people. They can easily be harvested through nets and are always believed to travel in huge numbers. The first thing to know is if getting krill from the ocean is a sustainable choice. Catching of krill should also be regulated; we don’t want to run out of krill in the ocean don’t we?
