When it comes to painting, many artists often wonder just how they can improve their skill and technique so that their art work consistently advances. Many people just do not realise that a lack of confidence can actually hold the artist back from natural progression and sometimes as artists, we should just relax and not be afraid to take risks.

Increasing your confidence will allow you to overcome your mistakes quite quickly as will have determination to succeed. Art isn't always about having every brush stroke perfect; it's about artistic interpretation and freedom of expression.

If you wish to have greater painting success then make note of the following tips:

1. Just enjoy your painting as an art form. Don't think too deeply about it. Revel in the colours and textures that you can create and stop worrying about making mistakes. Let the paintbrush become an extension of your arm and let your arm be relaxed and loose. Feel the brush guide confidently across paper or canvas and forget about being overly hesitant.

2. Mistakes are a natural part of the learning curve, and if you don't ...
... make mistakes, you stop growing as an artist. Even experienced and professional artists make mistakes from time to time; they just make less as their skills increase.

3. Don't worry too much about what other people say about your work. Just remember art is a personal interpretation of a visual form. It's what you think that counts! Everyone is likely to have an opinion, and whilst there are those who may be more skilled than you, there are others who will be merely offering their opinion.

4. As you become more used to be working intuitively with the paints, your painting endeavors will start to improve dramatically. Once you become more confident, you can always re-evaluate your painting at any time and then consider what you could do to have improved it. This way you are self-developing and honing your skill.
