Top Three Great Reasons To Visit Lake Lewisville

On the Northern part of Texas, you will find a freshwater lake known as Lake Lewisville. The lake is located at Elm Fork in the Trinity River near the town. Originally built for flood control, the lake is also used as water source for Dallas and surrounding suburbs. At present, it is ideal for boating and other water recreational activities.
The River and Harbor Act in 1945, called for more construction in the Trinity River basin, which was passed by the US Congress, started the Lewisville Dam construction. It cost $20 million at 33,000 feet long and was finished in 1955. During this time Garza Dam, which holds back Lake Dallas, was breach. This was done to create the new lake the will hold 183 miles of shoreline and 436,000 acres of capacity, after which in the mid 1970's, was called Lewisville Lake.
During the summer months, Lewisville Lake becomes crowded with people who are often hunts for water fowl, feral hogs and fishing, a few of the most popular activities done here. Most common types of fishes found here are large mouth, hybrid, striped and white bass, white crappie, blue and channel catfish. ...
... Despite the large number of fish breeds, fishing hobbyists prefer to look for white crappie and white bass fishes.
Canoeing and kayaking around the lake can also be an excellent activity that you will enjoy because of the low water level, giving you time to look at the wonderful sights around the lake and appreciate its beauty, with lots of wildlife species you can observe. Swimming and partying on the lake's shoreline are big attractions, especially during the spring and summer breaks where many people gather and hang out to enjoy the murky waters.
The low water levels at Lewisville Lake, usually at 2-3 feet make it hazardous for other water sports like surfing and diving. In fact, it was ranked as one of the most dangerous lakes in Texas due to consistent water accidents and fatalities happening each year. Taking precautions, following the rules and regulations of the lake can prevent more accidents from happening.
The hazardous areas around the lake are pointed out on the map but it doesn't really mean that the others are safe. One should take safety precautions when roaming around. It is really very ideal only for boating and fishing but not for fast-paced water sport activities. The major boat ramps are specified on the map for easier access and be careful to drift slowly and obey the laws for a safe and enjoyable boating or fishing.
