Unfortunately stress does not give you a knock on the door before entering your life. Once it enters your life it can make things seem very sad and small matters will seem impossible to cope with. In order to try and cope with stress you should try and keep check on the early warning signs. These signs can show you whether you are dealing with acute or chronic stress, and will also aid you in taking rapid and accurate measures to eradicate the stress as quickly and effectively as possible.

One of the warning signs of stress is a change in appetite. If you notice that you have lost a large amount of weight in a short space of time, you could be suffering from some form of stress. This is especially so if you do not have an appetite at all. Similarly, if you realize that you have started to eat more than your normal intake of food, you should check and see if you are being stressed out by a situation. Some people will find comfort in eating more, a way of numbing themselves and filling an emptiness or anxiety within.

... feel drained and worn out from you normal level of work, and want to just collapse after a day's work, you could be suffering from stress. This is especially so if you were handling your workload just fine before. This may also lead to changes in your regular sleeping pattern. Some people can also find it difficult to fall asleep, and experience insomnia. They may find themselves tossing and turning at night, worrying and fretting about all the circumstances in their life that are causing them stress.

Warning signs of stress can even lead into aches and pains in your body. Constant headaches are a very viable warning sign of stress, as well as backache. You may also start feeling unsociable. You will prefer to be alone and will start finding faults with the company of others. You could also be irritable, and snap easily at people, appearing to be grumpy.

You could also find yourself being constantly overpowered by feeling of stress - feeling overwhelmed. You will have a hard time concentrating on matters that require your attention.

Other warning signs of stress can be a dependency or reliance on dangerous substances like alcohol and drugs. Perhaps you feel some sort of relief from the release of your problems when using these substances. This is dangerous and can lead to an addiction, and if you feel the urge to resort to alcohol and other mind-altering substances to feel relief from your stress, you are probably suffering from a very acute level of stress.

Once you are aware of all the signs, and have noticed a change in your behavior and perspective on life, you should take immediate measures to reduce the stress. It is also a good idea to pinpoint the stressful situations and what causes you to feel this way, and to then reduce the effects in future.
