This is another in a series of adjustments to their privacy policy originally announced to the public in March of 2007. Ever since, a great deal of consternation and nervousness has ensued. Some may call this paranoia, others may call it a perfectly reasonable concern.

While this still will not satisfy many who are nervous or frightened that Google will gain untold power and access towards controlling activities and behaviors that would encroach on people's privacy, individualism, freedom and liberty, it does demonstrate that Google is sensitive and is responding to public opinion and outcry.

I maintain that Google is anything but stupid. They have developed a great business model in search and certainly will continue to try to build this out further domestically and internationally. They certainly do not want to jeopardize this by inviting harsh and relentless criticism. Governments are all too eager to get their hands on anything that can be regulated. It involves money and control and the U.S. government, among others, are all very willing to step in under the banner of privacy protection and individual ...
... liberty.

Google is a marketing services company primarily an Internet Marketing Company. All marketing firms, of all sizes, seek consumer and commercial information used to shape and formulate marketing strategy. Its just that Google, by sheer definition of what it is and what it means, has access to more information than has ever been available by any single entity in human history.

Rather than be nervous, lets be vigilant. Let's not rush to a guilty verdict. Google has not done anything wrong yet that compromises individual freedoms and privacy. So, let's be aware of the potential but not indict.

The market will ultimately decide Google's fate anyway. If the perception of the public every becomes that Google is not to be trusted, Google will lose its loyalty, its profitability and much more in a New York minute.
