Birth Flowers And Its Significance

The association of a distinct flower with each month of the year goes way back to the middle ages and may be even beyond! Flowers symbolically represent different meanings in different religions. Here is some more information on birth flowers according to each month.

January is represented by carnations. Carnation (especially pink colored ones) has historical significance. According to the Christian legend it is believed that carnations first appeared on Earth when Jesus carried the cross. Carnation represents love and passion. February is represented by violet that stands for friendship, hope, faith and valor. Daffodils are for the ones born in the month of March. It characterizes unrequited love and regard. With April, daisies bloom symbolizing innocence, loyalty and purity and it is a member of the sunflower family. Lilies are for the May born, symbolizing purity and majesty. They are found extensively ranging across Europe to Japan, India to the Philippines and extending from southern Canada through much of USA. June and July are ...
... represented by rose and Delphinium respective. Different shades of rose represent different emotions while the Delphinium indicates an open heart.

The gladioli represent the ones born in the month of August. This plant is sometimes called the sword lily and it is the flower of the mighty gladiators. September is represented by aster. The term aster come from a Greek word which means star and it stands for love and daintiness. Marigold is the flower for October and it is also a member of the sunflower family. Grace and affection are the key characteristics of the October born people. The flower for November is the Chrysanthemum and it comes in many colors. They are the epitome of optimism and happiness. Poinsettia is the flower for December and it is also known as the Christmas star. It is a beautiful red plant that stands for merriment and cheerfulness.

Knowing the flowers of each month makes it even easier for us to pick up bouquets for several occasions and celebrations. They have a unique symbolism and meaning reflecting a different type of mythology. Generally the flowers associated with each month grow around the same time of the year.

Just like birth flowers, each state of USA has a unique flower representing them. State flowers are symbol of each states distinct characteristic. It reflects unity in diversity of the nation as each flower makes a powerful statement. Some flowers echo’s the climate or the geography while some the general temperament of the citizens. However, 2 states’ flowers cannot be scientifically classified under the ‘flower’ category. The mistletoe of Oklahoma and the white pine cone or Maine is not actually flowers. Another interesting fact is that in the state of California, it is illegal to pick the state flower!
