How To Go From Cochin To Munnar
One of the most popular hill stations in the state of Kerala, Munnar is perhaps one of the most visited hill station by many from the nearby city of Cochin. The distance from Cochin to Munnar is around 130 km by road which is very frequently traversed by local tourists. This popular honeymoon destination is a favourite among many urban couples for its rolling hills and lush greenery all around.
The entire region is under a thick carpet of lush green tea plantations that adds to the beauty of this hill station. With a spectacular view of the rolling green hills and winding roads and the mystical blue sky above, Munnar is truly paradise for nature lovers. Situated in the Idukki district of Kerala, Munnar has varying topography consisting of tumbling waterfalls, gentle streams, tea plantations, grasslands, Shola forests, plains and emerald lakes that attract tourists from all across the country.

One of the main attractions that a vacation here offers is an excellent opportunity for adventure enthusiasts to indulge in their favourite adventure activities. The undulating topography of the region attracts tourists all the way from Cochin to Munnar who come for the many adventure filled treks that are popular in the region. One of the most popular treks is to the Anamudi Peak, the highest in South India. This peak is also the highest point in South India apart from the Himalaya-Karakoram mountain range. Among the other interesting attractions in Munnar are the Kurinjimala Sanctuary and Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary that are the hot favourites among nature lovers.
Munnar is well connected to Cochin by means of road and rail. The journey by road takes approximately 3 hours and passes through the towns of Tripunithura, Kolencherry, Ayyankavu, Oonnukal, Adimaly and Munnar. The route is dotted with many petrol bunks with their adjoining fast food joints that provide a good opportunity to stretch those tired limbs and to refuel both the vehicle and one’s appetite as well. Taxis can be hired to go from Cochin to Munnar that charge around INR 15 to INR 30 per km with the rates varying on the type of vehicle chosen. State run and privately run buses also ply between this route and usually takes close to 6 hours to reach Munnar owing to the multiple stops in between. Buses are not ideal for those who have elders or young children in their group.
