Arabic Translation: Should You Do It Yourself?
If you work within an industry where you need to have Arabic translations on a regular basis, you may be thinking that perhaps you should do it yourself using a variety of means. That may not be the best idea unless you are using reputable tools that you can count on for accuracy. Making even the smallest mistake when it comes to Arabic translation can mean a huge misunderstanding between two parties.
Dialects of the Arabic Speaking World
Just like English, Spanish and Italian have a variety of dialects so does the Arabic speaking world. A word or a phrase here and there can make all the difference if you get it wrong. You might insult a client by using a phrase in a dialect that is unfamiliar or has an entirely different meaning in their dialect.
Classical Arab is spoken throughout the Middle East and parts of Northern Africa, but each region has its own dialect and knowing which one you are dealing with can be very important.
The major Arabic dialect groups are as follows:
- Levantine Arabic-spoken in western Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon and Syria
- Egyptian Arabic-this is the most widely ...
... used second dialect and most citizens of the Arabic world can understand it
- Sudanese Arabic-spoken with a dialect into Chad
- Magreh Arabic-the language spoken in the western portion of Libya, Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia
- Andalusi Arabic- this dialect is considered extinct but it plays an important role in understanding the oral history of the various Arabian cultures
- Hassaniiya- spoken in Mauritania
- Yemeni Arabic
- Najdi Arabic
- Hijazi Arabic
- Iraqi Arabic
- Gulf Arabic-spoken in the Gulf Coast region from Kuwait to Oman and also spoken by the minorities from the other side of the Gulf Coast area
So as you can see, there are a number of dialects and each one is unique to the other. That is why it is so important that you have a professional or a really accurate Arabic translation tool at your disposal. If you know where your Arab friends are from, you can single out the dialect they speak so as to better understand any and all of the subtle nuances that each dialect carries.
Not getting the gist is the biggest problem when trying to do Arabic translation on your own. It is always recommended that a native Arabic language speaker do all your translating requirements. Either that or get the best Arabic translation software and tools that are available on the market today. You want to know exactly what is being said or what is written and doing it on your own is not the best way to go about it. The right Arabic translation tools can make a big difference in your being able to fully understand what is either being said or written. Do your research and be sure you choose the best Arabic translation tools your budget allows so you do not miss a word that is said or in print.
