An Introduction To Different Types Of Electricity Cables
Electricity is one of the most important things in the modern lifestyles. One cannot imagine life without electricity. With the growth of technology, the electricity cables also grew in variety which served the purposes of electrical cabling in different conditions and environments. Some of the most important electricity cables that are available in the market these days are the following:
1. THHN and TFFN Cables: These are the most general types of cables and have a conducting temperature limit of up to 90 degree Celsius in dry environments and up to 75 degree Celsius in wet conditions. They are used for wiring appliances, machine tools and control circuits that fall below the 600 volts limit. These electricity cables are resistant to gasoline and oil. They have the primary insulation of nylon jacket PVC.
2. Romen NMB Wires: They came originally enclosed in cotton but were later modified to PVC non metallic covering. This was done to remove the earlier disadvantages such as susceptibility to physical damage, water and heat. These days they have become the first choice for the interior walls, garages and over ground ...
... electrical cabling. One would need to follow the National Electric Code Regulations while working with these types of electricity cables to avoid any complexities in the future.
3. UF-B wires: These wires are constructed as multiple conductor wires and contain 2 or 3 conductors. They come with or without a ground wire. The copper conductors used are either soft, solid or stranded although the phase conductors are jacketed with Nylon PVC. They are color coded according to the standard regulations for ease of identification.
4. SER-Round Cable: These special cables are used to transmit electricity from the service drop of the meter to the distribution panel. It can be used only for the applications where the SE is allowed. The range of temperature is anything between 90 degrees Celsius while the maximum voltage limit is 600 volts.
5. Bare or Tinned Copper Wires: These are solid copper wires that are not insulated. One has two choices, either the bare copper or the tinned copper. These wires provide the following advantages:
a. They are extremely durable even at very high temperatures.
b. They offer total resistance to oxidation.
c. They are easy to weld.
Each of the above mentioned wires have their own specific uses and people should take care to strictly adhere to the usage specifications for safe usage.
