People have used different forms of backpacks for centuries. Each culture has its own design and own purpose. Whether transporting babies, food or hiking supplies, many civilizations have used packs.

The way we use backpacks in the United States has changed as well. An external frame backpack was once made of wood and used to carry heavy loads. Models today are highly-engineered, made of more comfortable material and range in price from $75 to more than $300.

External frame backpacks have a lot of history. They were once used by hunters to transport animals they killed. Modernized packs have been extremely utilized by the military and mountaineering communities since because are light, yet strong and rigid.

Those who are active in climbing or hiking have found external frame backpacks to be the best resource. People who are interested in purchasing a backpack should make sure the item is sized to their torso length, instead of their height. You can determine your torso length by measuring from the ...
... crest of your hipbone to the base of your neck. If you're looking to take the backpack on an overnight or multi-day trip, it should have at least 3,000 cubic inches of space.

The design of external frame backpacks has changed quite a bit over the years. Modern packs have a nylon pack-bag that connects to a supporting tube frame, which is usually made of aluminum or other lightweight metals. These backpacks are perfect for carrying heavy loads along trails. External frame backpacks were designed to have a roomy interior storage area and ample exterior pockets. Another benefit of external frame backpacks is that they're easy to tie tents, fishing poles and other gear onto the pack's external frame.

Keep in mind that not all backpacks are suited for the same job. For instance, external frame backpacks are best suited for less challenging terrain and have a high center of gravity. External frame backpacks are not recommended for those who want to bike or ski. The comfort of your backpack depends on the balance and proper distribution of your gear inside it. It's best to strap a sleeping bag and pad to the bottom of the frame in order to keep your back straight. If you place a tent on top of the frame it will act as a counterweight to the sleeping bag. You should put your food, clothes and larger gear in the middle. Then place the smaller items, along with your personal supplies, in the outside pockets.

Internal frame backpacks have gained more popularity than external frame backpacks in recent years. However, traditional external frame backpacks still offer several benefits. They are ideal for carrying heavier loads. External frame backpacks are cheaper and easier to pack than internal frame backpacks. They also offer better air circulation on a hiker's back than internal frame backpacks.

These are just a few things you should know about external frame backpacks. They have plenty to offer and can help make your next outdoor adventure a more pleasant one.
