Everybody goes a little bit insane once a year when they have to weave their way through hordes of other shoppers to get all the gifts they need to give on Christmas day. Fair enough, Christmas shopping can be quite a lot of fun when the high street is nicely decorate, lots of people are in high spirits, and there's the promise of a mince pie and a gingerbread latte at your local coffee shop once you're done, which can make the whole experience worthwhile, even when you're missing the Saturday football.

What's much less fun, though, is doing the whole thing more than once because you've not got all the gifts that you needed to buy, because everybody knows it's more stressful the second time; besides, the closer it gets to Christmas, the less stuff there'll be on the shelves, and chances are, the more the stores will be charging for it.

It's definitely a good idea to get your Christmas shopping done early then, and these days that can quite easily happen thanks to the wonders of the internet. Massive online only retailers are springing up with increasing frequency, and high street giants can always be found online ...

These shops also increasingly offer free delivery, which means that not only can you get your shopping done at your own pace, whenever it's convenient, but you can usually get the whole lot for a whole lot cheaper too.

The only problem with shopping online when you've got a deadline like this is that if you leave it too late you put all your festive hopes in the hands of the postal service, and though they're usually extremely reliable, it only takes a bit of particularly bad weather and the whole process grinds to a halt. You might be left without any presents under the tree, and you can spend the start of the New Year chasing up refunds; which won't really cheer anyone up.

The great thing about finishing your Christmas shopping well in advance; especially when you do your shopping online; is that hopefully you'll have enough money left over and enough time spare to go and experience the bustling high street without anywhere near as much stress, and none of the pressure to find all your presents right then and there.
