... what the city is all about.
It may sound as an aphorism to most of the travellers taking a trip to Kathmandu that it is known as the “Gateway of Mount Everest” and “The Gateway to Nepal”. However, there are various reasons that are largely a part of the cause as to why Kathmandu is one of the most visited cities in the world. Many seem to reckon that the city of Kathmandu is simply choked with temples and nothing else. But it is certainly not true as there are other significant places of interest to be checked out in the city other than its magnificent temples.
It is the largest city in the country and is in shape of a Khukuri knife. Its history dates back to 2000 years. It in fact is a melting point of diverse aspects and is home to cultural groups, historical monuments, amazing tourist spots and architectural wonders.
You can begin your journey by visiting the temples such as Pashupatinath Temple, Changu Narayan Temple, Boudhanath Stupa and Swayambhunath Stupa. Other than the temples, you can make your way to the attractions such as Hanuman Dhoka, Balaju Water Garden, National Museum and Natural History Museum.
Many grab flights to Kathmandu to partake in various festivals in the city. Albeit every day in Kathmandu is full of appeal, there are some days that are celebrated in joie de vivre right through the capital. If you want to relish these festivals, you don’t have to be religious as the people of Kathmandu are open to every religion and are tolerant as well.
