Darjeeling Places To See

Darjeeling in West Bengal, India, is one of the most beautiful places in the country. It is a hill station nestled in the Himalayas. Also, it is perhaps the most easily accessible hill stations that there ever was. Darjeeling has always been special to all Indians, but mostly to the Bengali community. Once there, it is very easy to forget that one was still caught up in the ensnaring congestion of the dusty cities less than two hours ago!
When you first start your sightseeing in Darjeeling, you will be amazed that even if you take a small walk and reach any side of the road, the view is breathtaking and you can spend hours watching the scenery. The Mall is the place where you go for your walks and do your shopping, and also enjoy pony rides. The walk to the Observatory will keep you mesmerized. A trip to the city is incomplete if you do not go round it once on the famous toy trains.
You can easily get jeeps to take you to Tiger Hill. Sunrise at Tiger Hill is the experience of the lifetime. Even before that, if you are fortunate enough to get good weather, you can see the Kanchenjunga at sunrise. It is said that ...
... the view has inspired many a poets to write some of their most beautiful lines. Ghoom is the highest point and the monastery there still bears the vestiges of the earliest form of Buddhism. A visit to the tea gardens is also a must.
There are other places of interest as well. There are many mountaineering institutes and a trip to the Mountaineering Museum will prove to be enriching. You will get to see the nuances of mountain climbing. Then there is the Bengal Natural History Museum that has interesting plants and animals and you will gain knowledge about a diverse range of flora and fauna. The local people will advise you to visit the Dali Gompa and Aloobari Gompa, famous temples in the vicinity, the deities of which they respect a lot.
Some say Darjeeling has lost much of its appeal and freshness and commercialization and indiscriminate real estate has played havoc to its natural beauty. Yet, the place still has a special place in the hearts of millions and a trip to this hill station will always give you loads of memories to cherish forever.
