Bed bugs have gotten a great amount of attention in the media lately, and rightfully so. The Philadelphia area in particular has seemingly been invaded by swarms of these pests as evidenced by elevated complaints of bed bug bites. With infestations occurring at an alarming rate, experts are turning to both new methods, such as bed bug dogs, to detect and control Philadelphia bed bugs.
Since the 1980s bed bug infestations have been on the rise in developed countries. Bed bugs in Philly have existed for quite some time, but have never been as prevalent as they are today. The large population and flux of travelers have helped fuel the explosion of this vermin infestation in the Philadelphia area. Luckily, Philadelphia bed bugs are not significantly different than those in other areas and can be controlled with the same techniques.
Unfortunately, the first sign of infestation ...
... is the appearance of bed bug bites. These microscopic lesions may lead to a variety of physical symptoms including rashes, intense itching, and blisters. More serious reactions may occur if the host is allergic to the proteins bed bugs inject to slow coagulation. On top of all this, these symptoms can eventually cause insomnia and other potent psychological effects in some individuals.
Another trait that makes bed bugs extermination difficult is their ability to hide and travel well. Although these insects find exposed skin during the night, they are adapted to seemingly disappear during the day. Bed bugs commonly find hard-to-reach crevices in bedding and have been known to nest in walls, floors, and ceilings. Due to their stealth, these creatures can easily be transmitted to other dwellings in travels luggage and guests personal effects.
Detection is key when dealing with infestations. Traditional methods involve visual inspections of suspected nesting locations or the use of lures. Recently specially-trained bed bug dogs have been deployed to sniff out these pests. Once it is determined that an area has a population of the vermin, a variety of bed bugs extermination techniques are available. These include pesticides, physical isolation, disposal, heat treatment, and many others.
Reputable pest control companies should service residential, commercial and industrial bed bug control and bedbug treatments in Philadelphia and surrounding areas.
