If you want true warehouse efficiency, you need to look into using signposting as a way of creating easily ordered warehouse systems, not to mention allowing people to navigate their way through them without having to hope on blind luck they find what they need. The beauty of signposting is that it’s based entirely in the visuals; there is no better way of signposting a location that through simple visual cue. You could not work in an environment that had no signposting system in place in the warehouse; there would be no legitimate way of finding what you want without signposting. Say for instance in an attempt to order the warehouse it is split into rows and sections rather than just a mess of shelves without signposting. With the signposting in place and marking the separate rows, you allow order into the warehouse. If a forklift driver is ordered to place a crate on row A6 they can simply follow the signposting in order to find where the crate must be dropped. ... really be able to accurately predict what row you would have wanted the crate placed in? It’s not only unlikely, but the result of the uncertainty is also very probable when it comes to raising the stress of the employee.

In other uses signposting can also be used to determine a system of getting around the warehouse safely. Say for instance the forklifts drive on one side of the floor and people can walk freely on the other. Using signposting to create an effective road network inside the warehouse is highly effectively when it comes to safety and reducing the risk of collision. Overall signposting is a good way to improve accuracy when stocking the shelves of warehouses, and is also a great way to arrange a cataloguing system in order to keep track of what is stored in the warehouse and what isn’t.
