Hearing loss is one of the biggest issues around the world today. According to a recent survey one out of six people suffer from hearing loss. The human ear can hear sound frequencies from 20 Hz to 20000 Hz. This is considered to be the standard audible range. Sounds below this frequency are considered infrasonic whereas sound above this frequency is called supersonic. Loss of hearing is categorized in four main categories mild, moderate, severe and profound. However, there are many factors that lead to loss of hearing and why it occurs in people. Some factors are internal; however, majority of external factors cause a loss in hearing.

An individual is considered to suffer from mild hearing loss if they have a hard time hearing sounds close to them. The average level of listening lies between 25 dB and 40 dB. Most human conversations happen at this range. People who suffer from mild loss of hearing have a hard ...
... time picking up conversations or hearing them due to noise of distortion in their surroundings. This is a small issue and it can be treated with some ear exercises and getting away from the daily hustle of life for a while. Another form of hearing loss is the one that lies in the medium category.

People who suffer from mild loss of hearing can keep up with conversations if they pay close attention to the individuals who speaks. But if keeping a track of conversations without the help of a hearing aid is an issue then the individual is believed to be suffering from moderate hearing loss. The range of hearing for people suffering from moderate loss of hearing begins from 40 dB to 70 dB. Sounds below and above this level cannot be heard. Mostly people suffering from loss of hearing fall under this category. The next two categories are the ultra high range of hearing losses namely severe and profound.

People who suffer from severe hearing loss are the ones who need to be shouted at. These individuals are the ones who cannot hear any sound below 70 dB and above 95 dB. This is the range where people speak loudly and some need to shout. It is also the range that you get where you are angry and speaking. People who suffer from severe loss of hearing also need heavy hearing aids and sign language to understand the conversation around them. They are very good at lip reading. You are considered to be deaf if you suffer from severe and profound loss of hearing.

The average human scream ranges between 95 dB to 120 dB. People suffering from profound hearing loss can only hear sounds above 95 dB. These people can use the advantage of a hearing aid and depend completely on sign language or lip reading. Hearing issues can be treated with the help of hearing aids in the first three categories. But profound hearing loss is difficult to treat. The sense of hearing is very important and needs to be looked after.
