The kitchen is the most popular room in the house to renovate. The problem is it's also the most costly room fix up as well.

The aim of this article is to give you the top three places to concentrate your energy on when making kitchen remodeling decisions.

1] Budget -
A simple barometer you might use for your budget is called the 10% "rule". We don't want to make it a formal rule though as you may want to upgrade certain parts of your kitchen plans to suit your needs.

If you start out with the idea of not spending more than 10% of the real world value of your place you will have a realistic figure to use for starters. Very simply stated, if your place could sell for $175,000.00 you should plan on using the figure of $17,500.00 as a round budget figure for the work

Of course this number should be flexible based on your needs. If you'll be in your home for many years and really love cooking, don't be reluctant to exceed this total. Conversely if you are fixing up the kitchen to make it more captivating for a quicker sale you may want to spend less. They key is to consider the 10% rule as only ...
... a guide of where to start.

By remaining flexible and honest with yourself about you goals you will realize the process will go a lot more smoothly. Who knows you may even enjoy the process of ceating new kitchen plans.

2] Scope of Work-
It may be obvious but I'm going to say it anyhow. The quantity of work you do will directly impact the dollar amount of your kitchen renovation. Generally projects fall into two classes. Kitchen plans that require moving walls thus redefining the kitchen space are what can be seen as major kitchen overhauls.

Then there are those kitchen plans that replace present cabinetry and fixtures in the unchanged room foot print. If fixtures and cabinetry stay in the same placement these could be referred to as kitchen renovations.

We can further break down the kitchen renovations category to accept replacing only particular elements of the kitchen. Perhaps all you wish to do to spruce up your kitchen plans is to replace the counter tops and sink. Or maybe you can afford to add new appliances as well. Let's call this sub category a kitchen tune-up.

3] Products Used-
Plan on doing lots of research for the numerous items in your new kitchen plans. The internet is a great resource for this task. As a standard idea it's a good idea to try and pick out products that are all of an equivalent quality level. It usually doesn't make sense for instance to purchase very basic appliances then install top of the line custom cabinetry.

However, that's not to say you shouldn't consider the idea of upgrading to suite you needs. If you have a very busy kitchen or lots of children you may want to consider a more durable counter top surface. Especially if the one you have now is not holding up well.

By investing a good deal of initial research time on these three categories you will certainly be more able to make sure your new kitchen plans meet your function, style and cost needs.
