Kumbakonam – The Temple Town
One of the oldest towns which are very popular in Tamil Nadu is Kumbakonam. The Mahamaham festival is religiously celebrated here at the Mahamaham tank once in twelve years. The Chola Kings ruled it during the seventh century. The famous Kumbakonam temple town is located picturesquely amidst the Arasalar and Cauvery rivers.
