There is no doubt that a healthy looking tanned body is very attractive. Who can forget the vision of the suntanned and gorgeous Honeychile Rider (Ursula Andress) walking out of the sea in "Dr No" or the equally hunky young James Bond (a Youthful Sean Connery) with ripped abs singing back to her. Now just imagine that both of them hadn't had that beautifully healthy glowing tan. The effect would just not have been the same.

This effect was recreated by Halle Berry in a much later James Bond and of course she has the most gorgeous complexion anyway but this was augmented by a healthy glow of the sun.

A very famous song sung by Astrid Gilberto celebrates a "Tall and tan and young and lovely" Girl from Ipanema (Somewhere in Rio de Janeiro) walking around. Movies and tabloid newspapers and celebrity magazines all devote pages and pages of photographs to the body beautiful. And the body beautiful is almost always tanned, sometimes wearing a bikini, sometimes nude, sometimes in lingerie and sometimes fully dressed but just about 100% of these are sporting a tan.

Skin Cancers and Melanomas are prevalent and are big killers. So we go and lie in the sun to get sunburned but then spend a fortune on creams and lotions and after sun formulas which are high in Sun Protection Factor (SPF).

The other difficulty with Sun tanning is that it is boring. Everybody enjoys lying on the beach in the sun for a while but reading is difficult. If you live and active life lying sun tanning is a wasteful and pointless exercise.
