A Bottle Opener is an absolute necessity for a bartender. There are basically two main types of openers; those for opening caps from beer or soda bottles and the other for removing cork from wine bottles. Although both are referred to by the same name, they are different in many respects.

Bottle Openers

For a bartender, a bottle owner is an essential tool. He should have a stock of different types of openers for various uses. You can select the one that is best for you. The v-rod opener is a very popular style. The speed opener or flat opener is a classic special that has been with bartenders for several years. Its design is elegant and sophisticated. It’s not only easy to use but it’s also durable; this makes it the bartender’s favourite. A dog bone opener is sleek and lightweight; it has a backbone with two big heads for opening. The knuckle popper enables you to easily slide your fingers in, which helps to open bottles with great ease. The hammerhead opener can open several bottles together. Beer bottles ...
... for a table of 10 or even a dozen can be opened effortlessly with this opener.

Wine Bottle Openers

There are several types of wine Bottle Opener with a corkscrew. The winged corkscrew is the common type. Just like wings, there are two projections on the sides. When the central screwed portion is pushed into the cork, the lever on either side causes the cork to rise up and the wings come down. The waiter’s front or wine key is a smaller version. There is only a single lever in this type. The lever pull screw is yet another type available today. This can be used with ease but is more expensive than the corkscrew with wings or the waiter’s key

Using a Standard cork Bottle Opener

Standard bottle openers are available in two varieties; one that works with a lever and the other is the corkscrew. It is sometimes called as a cork puller. The foil covering or any other covering on the top of the bottle is removed. By turning the opener clockwise, the cork has to be removed. The spiraled part of the opener has to go into the cork. Then while pulling the opener, the cork also comes up. The cork is retained to re-use it.

All corkscrew openers function in the same way. Various types of corkscrew openers are available such as the one with a knife, the French type, waiter’s friend available in stainless steel and a deluxe variety.
