Can computers think independently? This topic has been debatable since many years. This question was also projected on cinema screens in 1950’s. At that time, computers were depicted in a negative way, like destructible for the world, in several movies. “Star Wars” was totally made with computer background in the story-line. Human beings possess minds but computers work faster, accurately, easily and conveniently, than humans. Thus the never-ending debate on the topic,” Man vs Machine” goes on! The vision of making a device which could be compared to human mind has always been an interesting topic of Science Fiction movies and novels. Charles Babbage, in 1950’s, developed an Analytical Engine that laid the foundation stone for the evolution of computers from a simple calculator. Scientists are still puzzled as to any existence of intelligent life in the universe? Or are humans the only ones to possess minds? It has remained a mystery ever since the invention of computers. With the innovation in technology, scientists are researching the possibility of the intelligence of computers and comparing it with human minds. ...
... But none of them have been able to clarify on whether the computers are similar enough to the human brains to have intelligence. Philosophers are redefining the mind by saying it is a separate non-physical entity associated with the body. While, behaviorism states that the mind does not exist but rather patterns of behavior. Moreover, Functionalism is another school of thought and draws its logic from computer technology. Functionalism believes that the mind is simply a program and the body, its hardware. But the simplest definition for intelligence is the ability to adapt. We can tell the computer to do a specific task, but if you don’t give the right command and input, computers would not work. It can further be defined as the intelligence is to take into consideration the conditions of completing a specific task. So, we can rightly say that human brain is the most intelligent device on the Earth. It serves as the driving force for the ever progressive nature of the mankind. Though supercomputers are able to do billions and trillions of calculations each second, but still human mind is the sole creator of this machine. Of course, the scientists had been working on the idea of imitating human brain; they began a new era of research and created supercomputers. Although, computers have completely revolutionized the world, humans remain the topmost creation of God. It is evident that computers are slowly replacing humans in all field of lives, they are still in the process of modification. Today, in the 21st century, we are using Supercomputers but still, much remains to be done in the development of modern technology. Supercomputers work on the theory of Artificial Neural Network. It is a structure composed of a number of interconnected units, called Artificial Neurons, which has output/input characteristics. However, the fact remains that the only Neural Network is the Brain. But Human is on his way to develop such a system which can learn itself and overtake human brain!
