Too often, people allow just any company that they come across to work on high dollar projects for them, and expect them to do a good job. Even with a resource, as fast as the Internet available to them, they do not conduct enough informational research to find the best company to provide what they are looking for. Luckily, if you are good at spotting the warning signs, you can avoid working with a company that is not going to give you the best standard of work, and find one that will. A few of the things that you need to take into consideration if you're considering hiring a company for a high dollar job include;

Work Ethic

From the moment that you begin discussing the project with the company, you have to take their work ethic into account. Work ethic will be the number one determining factor whether or not they are going to be able to meet your needs. There are many things that work ethic encompasses, and you need to take a good look at everything to know whether or not they have good work ethic.

One of the basic surefire ways to evaluate company, is to see whether or not they show up late. If they do, ...
... that can be a really bad sign for their ongoing customer service. Not being able to meet appointments, can mean a number of different things. Sure, sometimes they have a legitimate excuse, but other times they are simply not putting in enough effort to keep their appointments. This would be a red flag, and a warning sign that perhaps the company is not going to be able to meet your needs.

Another warning sign might be that they do not put anything in writing. You should always try and get a contract in writing for high dollar jobs, in order to ensure that your needs are met, or you will have no legal recourse. If they refuse to put anything in writing, then you know that in the back of their mind, they feel that there is a chance that they are not going to be able to provide what they say they will. No company that is doing business should shy away from putting things in writing to protect both themselves, and the customer as well. It's just a part of doing business. Also, especially when you are working with a roofing company, you need to make sure that they have proof of insurance. This insurance covers the repairs if they actually do damage to your roof.

Also, having a basic conversation with a company can really do a lot for your opinion of them. By speaking to them directly, about what they're going to do for you, you can get a good idea of what they will provide. However, if you are on the phone with them, and find them dodging questions, and typically not being able to answer you honestly, or if it seems like they are giving you some sort of scripted answer, this should be a warning sign that you do not want to work with the company.

Other Warning signs that should be taken into consideration is whether or not a company is local, whether or not they can provide you with adequate references and testimonials, whether or not the references are able to give you a call back and discuss the work that was done for them, and whether or not their equipment is new and usable. Companies with older run down equipment show that they are not willing to invest in their craft, or that their company is not profitable enough to invest in new equipment.

Look for companies that have a professional appearance, provide excellent customer service, have a local office, and are generally willing to go the extra mile for you and ensure that the job is done to your specifications, for a price point that makes sense for both you and the company.
