Stay At The Hotels In Pondicherry And Still Feel The Vibes Of An Erstwhile French Colony!

The French colonial architecture and the unmistakable footprints of French culture that still lingers in this marvelous city is an attraction that brings hordes of tourists here.
Also known as ‘The French Riviera of the East’, many tourists are surprised that such a place can exist in the otherwise rustic and typically ‘south Indian’ state of Tamil Nadu. A Union Territory, Pondicherry is entirely surrounded by the state of Tamil Nadu and is hence a popular weekend spot for many people from the state. The hotels in Pondicherry are therefore forever busy!
Though the architectural layout of the city itself is more than enough to impress you, there are various other places in the city that might interest the tourist in you. The beaches of Promenade, Paradise, Serenity, and Auroville are all worth a visit. The Promenade beach is the most popular among them while the Paradise beach can only be reached by boat. The Auroville beach is popular with swimmers and picnickers as the shallow waters and friendly waves make for a great relaxing day by the sea.
The Sri Aurobindo Ashram founded by Aurobindo Ghose ...
... who besides participating in the Indian freedom struggle was also a philosopher, poet, and recluse. The Ashram is certainly worth a visit though it will help to know that children below the age of three are not allowed inside. Photography too is restricted though not entirely prohibited. Devotees from all over India as well as from many other countries come here in search of spiritual salvation after being inspired by its combination of yoga and modern science.
There are also various memorials and statues like the Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru statues, the marble statue of Joan of Arc, the French War Memorial on Goubert Avenue, and the Aayi Mandapam, which are worth a visit. The Botanical Garden, Ousteri Wetland and National Park, Bharathi Park, and Museums such as the Pondicherry Museum, the Bharathidasan Museum, the Jawahar Toy Museum, and the Children’s Museum, are other tourist attractions.
