Most small businesses do not have access to their own private meeting rooms, even if they do have their own offices. When the business needs to call a meeting, they will often use a local restaurant or bar to bring the attendees together. Whilst this is a good way to get around the short-term problem of hosting a meeting, it can be expensive. Of course, the actual use of the restaurant or bar table is free, but usually the company hosting the meeting will pick up the tab at the end. Depending upon the number of attendees and the choice of venue, this can represent a significant expenditure.

Many businesses who work in this way are unaware of the fact that it can be much more cost effective to rent meeting rooms. It is possible to rent meeting rooms in most locations; usually these will be part of the facilities offered by shared office rental companies. Just because a business does not rent an office in the building does not mean they cannot rent meeting rooms within it, they are almost always available for use by the general public for a fee.

... in a local eating establishment will usually find that the cost is actually reduced. This is especially true for meetings with more than two or three attendees. A single fee is paid to book the meeting room for a set period. This fee will almost always be less than picking up the check for four of five people in a restaurant.

Most buildings that rent meeting rooms will be able to offer refreshments such as tea and coffee, and should also be able to arrange catering for lunch if the meeting is scheduled to run over from the morning into the afternoon.
If you operate a small business which regularly schedules meetings in a restaurant or bar, simply because you do not have access to meeting rooms of your own, then consider the option to rent meeting rooms in the future.
