In order to be eligible to work as a pharmacy technician, you will need either a license or registration to prove that you are a certified pharmacy technician. There are many positions available for pharmacy technicians in businesses and medical facilities across the U.S. to provide assistance to pharmacists. It is a requirement for an individual to be registered and licensed in order for him/her to work as a pharmacy technician. Furthermore, employers are required to go through the pharmacy technician license verification process. Pharmacy Technician National Certification Those who have some experience in the area of pharmacy technician license verification know that a nationally-recognized pharmacy technician certification can be obtained from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB). This exam consists of numerous multiple-choice questions. Also, people are allowed 110 minutes to finish the entire exam. Three retakes of the exam are allowed according to the terms of specific PTCB ...
... guidelines. Those who pass the exam earn a nationally recognized certificate. Most employers prefer to hire educated pharmacy technicians that are certified. Some employers view the PTCB as a way of continuing education and career advancement. Certified pharmacy technicians have more employment options available to them and when they are hired, they have a better chance of being promoted and earning a higher salary. Pharmacy Technician Certification by State Certification by the PTCB is one way to qualify for a license or registration in most states. Each state has its own requirements. Some people find the terminology for state and national certification to be confusing but they should not be discouraged. All you have to do is consult the requirements for the state in which you wish to work. Each state pharmacy board lists their requirements to show people how to become licensed in their state. Once a person pays the required application fee, they are guided through each step of the licensing process.Although the requirements of the various state licensing boards may be different, most of the states have the rules regarding issuing pharmacy technician licenses. People who want to become a pharmacy technician need to earn their high school diploma or GED certificate before furthering their education to meet state licensing requirements. After that, you'll need to ensure that you meet state registration requirements. In California, for example, there are three potential ways in which you can become a pharmacy technician. First, you can satisfy the California requirements by completing several different types of coursework. You can meet the coursework requirement by graduating from college with an Associate Degree in Pharmacy Technology, by completion of a course of study approved by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) or by receiving a degree from a pharmacy school approved by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE). Second, they can qualify in California by taking the PTCB exam. Finally, a third option in California is qualification through training provided by a branch of the federal armed services. Some states refer to their legal requirements for employment as a pharmacy technician as a registration rather than a license. For example, in Texas every pharmacy technician must have an active pharmacy technician registration to work in the state. To speed up the job application process, individuals should have their paperwork already prepared and ready for license verification. Prior to offering you a position as a pharmacy technician, most employers will require that you provide documentation of your pharmacy technician certificate, pharmacy technician registration or pharmacy technician license. If you have further questions on how to get a pharmacy technician license or pharmacy technician registration, you can contact the PTCB or the state licensing board in the area in which you will be seeking employment. If you're interested in learning more about how you can register as a pharmacy technician here at our website: pharmacy technician certification
