Voltis Helps Your Meet Your Carbon Reduction Commitment

The Carbon Reduction Commitment (known since 2010 as the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme) was introduced by the UK Government in 2007 as a way of capping the carbon emissions of large, non-energy intensive organisations in the both the private and public sectors.
Any organisation which consumes more than 6,000MWh per hour every half hour is subject to the Carbon Reduction Commitment. The scheme forms part of the UK Government’s commitment to reduce its carbon emissions to 40% of 1990 levels by 2050. In 2008, this commitment was upped to 80%.
As previously stated, the Carbon Reduction Commitment applies to both public and private sector organisations. Those who fall under its coverage include such unusual businesses as football clubs, theme parks and other major tourist attractions, but largely consist of more mundane groups; hotels, supermarkets, hospitals, Local Government Authorities, banks, etc. Most of these organisations are small enough that they do not legally have to be regulated under EU laws regarding carbon emissions. Together, however, they account for 10% of the UK’s entire carbon output, making ...
... their regulation an important factor in the UK’s drive to bring emissions down.
The first league table of performance based on the Carbon Reduction Commitment was published in November 2011. As well as acting as an incentive for organisations to work harder to cut their emissions – nobody wants to be seen to be falling behind their peers in their efforts to save the planet – it was intended to provide much needed information for green traders and those particularly concerned with investing in ethical businesses. In this manner, being kinder to the environment becomes not a government-imposed structure, but a sound business decision.
Last year’s league table threw up plenty of recognisable names. The UK’s four biggest supermarket chains all appeared in the top 150, though none made it into the 22 organisations which shared first place. One organisation which did make it to the top of the league – and not for the first time, of course – was Premier League football club Manchester United.
The Voltis voltage optimisation unit can be used by companies looking to achieve a similar reduction in their carbon output. Electricity from the UK mains is supplied, on average, at about 242V. However, most electrical appliances perform at their peak between 216-220V, and can still operate adequately with a power supply as low as 207V. Beyond the ideal range, equipment will vent some of its excess energy as heat and vibration. Not only is that a spectacular waste of energy across a large organisation, it can also shorten the expected life of your equipment. Voltis reduces the amount of energy fed through from the mains to your electrical equipment, saving you money and helping you reach your Carbon Reduction Commitment.
Marshall-Tufflex Energy Management offer a range of products designed to help organisations meet their Carbon Reduction Commitment. Their Voltis voltage optimisation unit offer savings of up to 20% on your electricity bill.
