History lovers will always have much to look ahead for when they visit Malaysia. There is something magical about the country. The history in each of the States tells a story of how it has developed into a better nation. When you speak about States like Penang for example, you will be drawn to the central location in Georgetown. Georgetown was founded in the year 1786 by a trader from British East India Company named Captain Francis Light. Back then, Georgetown was not much but a swamp area.

It was due to trading that Georgetown soon developed as a commercial centre. Jetties were build, warehouses started to grow like mushrooms and there were more banks built there than in any other State at that time.

Now that many years have passed, the central location of Georgetown still holds a history to be accounted for. One historical place that is a must to see is Fort ...
... Cornwallis. The Fort still shows the original structures of buildings built back in the 1700s. It is one of the largest Forts still standing in Malaysia. What is different from the many other Forts is that it is mostly occupied during that time for administrative work compared to engaging in war battles. You might be interested to know that even a wedding took place here in the year 1799.

When you are at the central location in Malaysia, you are already part of the country’s history. You will take home something new that you have learnt from almost anywhere you go. Even if it is just a walk on the streets of Georgetown, you will get a chance to see temples and churches built as beautiful structures. It will amaze you how the influence of the past has still been able to blend itself into the modern structures today.

As mentioned before, for a history lover that comes to Malaysia, there would be no end for their visit. Another State that holds colourful history and culture is the State of Kelantan. It is said that during the early histories of Kelantan, it is linked to the Khmer Empire, Siam and also Funan Kingdom which is an ancient kingdom located at southern Vietnam and Indochina. Kelantan also happens to be the first State in Malaya where the Japanese stepped on when they came to invade.

You will find that at the central location in Kelantan, there are many places of interest with historical values. One such visit is to the Chinese Beijing Mosque. It is built with a unique combination of Chinese and Islamic architecture. It is famous for reasons that the structure and design is almost as similar to that of a 1000 year old Niujie mosque in Beijing. With the first look, you will be able to see how classical and traditional it has been designed. A few kilometres away from it, you will also find the amazing and one of the largest reclining Buddha statues in Malaysia at one of the Buddhist temple. You can further see how the connections with other ancient kingdoms then had influenced the State’s religion and culture.

We live in a modern world now. The cities are coming up with more sky scrappers. People rush to ensure they are not left behind in this fast moving world. History however has taught values that can blend with your current life. When we visit such places in Malaysia, it serves as a blast to the past. You will see, learn and take home something to dwell on.
