‘Malaysia is a mini Asia in a nutshell, as no where in the world can a country boast of diverse cultures, craft, cuisine and races living in harmony under one flag! It is a great country to visit and discover the lifestyle and history of Malays, Chinese and Indian races all of whom call themselves proudly Malaysian! A feast to the eye, this city celebrates with great gusto the Chinese New Year, the Hindu festival namely Deepavali, and the Islamic festival of Hari Raya. So how do you cover the trip on a tight budget? The first and most important place to begin with, is the ticket price. Thanks to the burgeoning of budget airlines all over the world, there are always promotions or discounted tickets available through the year. This is a huge savings right away. The next thing to worry about would be a convenient location in Kuala Lumpur to lodge in.

How does a convenient location in Kuala Lumpur ...
... fit in to the budget holiday you might ask? This is simply because some budget hotels are located in downtown areas of cities or in very convenient suburbs. These metropolitan cities have tourists visiting from all over the world and budget hotels do not want to lose customers due their obscure locations. So, a good budget hotel would be one which is close to local transport, shopping centres, or entertainment areas. Despite such locations these hotels give you affordable room rates which are again big savings that you would be starting the holiday with. Kuala Lumpur is a mix of concrete downtown jungle interspersed with tropical rain forest regions, Chinese, Indian temples, Mosques, the famous land mark of Kuala Lumpur namely Petronas Towers, the modern city of Putrajaya where a number of government buildings are built based on the aesthetic Islamic culture and craft, theme parks, Pasar Malam or night markets which brings you as close to the local sights and sounds as possible etc. Take the city tours which give a comprehensive view of the city and then you can choose to revisit places of shopping or other interest at leisure.

In fact all across Malaysia from North to South and the Borneo states of Sabah and Sarawak there are a number of low cost hotels. The better ones among them not only boast of a convenient location in Malaysia but also offer unbelievable amenities such as a five star worthy bed and bath. From small conveniences like a hair dryer to ceiling fan these hotels provide at an extra cost, facilities such as Wi-Fi or TV and air conditioning and charge based on usage. Most provide car park facilities in major towns. Budget hotels realize that service with a smile is as important as it is in five star hotels, so a friendly staff should be expected at the reception not to mention security or limited access in to the common areas such as the lobby. So, the bottom line is there is no need to go with low expectations when you book a budget hotel.

Attractive tourist packages sometime cover a couple of cities in a country either by local tourism agents or international tourist agents. Another amazing town to visit is Penang. Touted as the ‘pearl of orient’ in Malaysia, this city is an amalgamation of east and west. The World Heritage Sites share space with the modern, upmarket buildings in Georgetown. Just take a stroll in this area to go back in time and enjoy the churches, cathedrals, Buddhist temples, Chinese temples each of which is a man made wonder. Learn what goes in to your food from the tropical spice garden which is a major tourist draw. From the famed Penang Hill from where a tourist gets a spectacular bird’s eye view of the city to the beaches, Penang is a tourist’s delight. What is even more thrilling is the fact that you can actually have the option of staying downtown in a convenient location in Penang. For example look for hotels that are close to World Heritage Sites from where it is just a walking distance to and from the hotel! The trick is to make use of the promotional deals such as twin packages of cheap airline tickets along with cheap accommodations. Browse the net or talk to friends or look through newspapers and grab the deals when the travel period suits you. Sometimes these deals are the only reason why you should go and discover places that you only get to read about!
