Never expect an emergency light to work perfectly especially if you still haven’t used it after hanging it in that ceiling of yours. This is the button used to test if your emergency light is working perfectly. If you want to test them you simply have to press this button for a full thirty minutes. The light should be on for the whole thirty minutes without even blinking. See if the bulbs are still bright just like the first time you bought them; if they flicker or dim out a little, then it’s time to replace them. Don’t wait for it to go out completely. Always change them at the first sign of dimness.

Change batteries if needed

Aside from the bulbs, the batteries should also be checked. When the power goes off, the battery starts to work. Always make sure that the batteries are changed at a regular basis especially when there are frequent brownouts in your area. Dimmer light bulbs and longer response time are signs that the batteries should be changed immediately. If you fail to test your emergency lights regularly or fail to use them at all, your batteries could go to waste and might not even work.

Use a separate circuit breaker

Just to keep things safe, whether you are doing your regular microwave testing or environmental testing, and especially when doing your emergency light testing it is important to use a separate circuit breaker.
