Stranger Than Fiction Drunk Driving Stories

Car accident by itself is a sob story. No car accidents ever end happily (unless it resembles a romantic comedy movie and you end up meeting your soulmate. But what are the odds of that happening?). But sometimes, in some rare moment when the universe decides to have a little sense of humor, there are stories that are too strange they become funny especially when they’re about drunk driving.

But, what do you expect with drunks? Drunken conversations are probably a source of a lot of sitcom scenarios. So presenting, drunk driving stories that are stranger than fiction:

The apple that doesn’t fall far from the tree

This is about a 15 year old teenager from South Canterbury who was caught driving drunk around midnight. His alcohol capacity was 529 micrograms per liter which was 350% over youth limit. So police station he went for processing and he called his mother to come pick him up.

But guess what? The universe was really playing tricks that night and the mother’s partner was caught drunk driving on his way to pick them up and his alcohol was 559 mcg. So the family that does things together stays together, at the police station that is.

When in China

Drunk driving law in China has a stiff penalty and the Chinese are very conscientious of car accidents. When caught in a plastered situation you can spend up to six months in jail plus a high fine. Knowing how economical the Chinese are, they wouldn’t be caught paying those stiff fines. So instead of being charged with drunk driving, they just decided to walk all the way home. Or actually push the car all the way home.

After an office party, the boss found he was too drunk to drive himself home. Thing was, everybody in the office were also too drunk to drive. So what they did was to push the car all the way home which was just three miles away. It was advised that the walk would be a good exercise as well as a way to drain out their intoxication.

That must have been a happy sight to see ten drunken Chinese office workers pushing a car through the city in the middle of the night. The policemen said that it doesn’t break any law as the engine wasn’t running.

Make the same mistake twice

This is the story of a man in Romania who was caught drunk driving whose license was subsequently revoked. After two years he came back to reapply for a license but he was too nervous about the test so he decided to drink to calm him down. The officers noticed his inebriation and decided to test his breath for alcohol. He naturally failed it. And naturally he didn’t get his license back.

These may be funny stories but there are lessons to learn. There’s nothing funny about drunk driving because it causes car accidents and the law takes it seriously anywhere in the world.
