The families are nuclear these days and consider the weddings as the way to strengthen their extended family. A Hindu wedding prescribes a ritual function for all important family relationships. At the time of wedding in Hindi Matrimonial, various rituals are performed at the respective homes of the bride and bridegroom. Their bodies are anointed with a divine paste of turmeric and oils that are aimed to cleanse the body and add glow to the skin. Both the families also enjoy this occasion of playing with turmeric paste and the married women apply the paste to the bride and groom, and at the same time, they also enjoy it by applying turmeric on one another.

Now it comes to decorating the bride. The clothing of the bride and groom keep a very important place and vary regionally. The clothing and ornaments of the bride vary as per the local tradition as well as the personal choice. The basic wedding attire of the bride all over the country is sari and lehenga, however in states like Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh, the brides wear salwar suits. The ornaments are usually made up of gold, but nowadays, diamond and other precious stones are gaining much popularity. The basic ornaments of a bride include necklaces, earrings, bracelets, bangles, rings, nose rings, anklets, and toe rings. Some of the traditional ornaments like armlets, mangtika, hathaphula and waistbands are optional and are worn as per the availability.

The bride is made to look very beautiful with the usage of natural beauty aids, such as henna, kohl, etc. the hands and feet are applied with henna designs. There is a concept of Solah Shringaar in the Hindi matrimony. In the south India states of the country, it is mandatory for the brides to wear flower stands in her hair bun and wear heavy gold jewelry, along with heavy south silk saris.
