Day Trip: Hoboken
Hoboken is one of New Jersey's hot spots for singles and offers an array of bars and five-star dining.
Spice it Up: Travel downtown for a taste of Cuba at Hoboken's own Little Havana (La Isla, 104 Washington St., 201-659-8197). At Avenue Bistro Bar (411 Washington St., 201-659-1990) you can order a 4-star martini and head to the upstairs lounge, where a DJ brings the dance crowd on Friday and Saturday nights. Teak on the Hudson (16-18 Hudson Place, 201-653-6888) serves exotic sushi rolls with breathtaking views of Manhattan. Or you can grab a quick slice at 7th Star Pizza (342 Garden St., 201-653-7204).
Dress to Impress: Ciao Belly (730 Washington St., 201-850-1853), is a fun and friendly boutique featuring affordable, hip maternity wear, a fashionable children's line, and plenty of unique gifts and accessories. Find that perfect date-night outfit at Bridge Boutique (636 Washington St., 201-683-8933) then add a pair of shoes to match at Sole Search (801 Washington St., 201-656-3330).
Gold Digger: Indulge in a 24-carat gold anti-aging facial ($175) at Roop Auyrvedic Day Spa (69 Tenth St., 201-216-0013). ...
... Or try one of their many other revitalizing spa treatments.
Know it All: The Hoboken Historical Museum (1301 Hudson St., 201-656-2240), is a fascinating place for those interested in local history, culture, legends, and folklore. Listen in on story time, check out a new exhibit, or partake in a self-guided walking tour of the town (visit hobokenmuseum.org for the latest events and exhibitions).
Cheek to Cheek: Frank Sinatra was born in Hoboken on December 12, 1915. Visit the small museum at 417 Monroe Street, next door to his childhood home. You can also stroll along Frank Sinatra Drive, which will lead you to Frank Sinatra Park. You'll also find a number of restaurants named after Old Blue Eyes.
Love at First Bark: Animal lovers will be joining in Hoboken's fifth annual pet parade on October 5 at 1 pm. The furry festivities will begin in Sinatra Park leading over to Pier A Park (costume and contest prizes will be paw'd out).
Ghouls and Gals: Hoboken's annual Halloween Parade (for kids and pets) takes place Oct. 31. It begins at 3:30 pm at 14th and Washington streets and ends at Sinatra Park with a costume contest, live music, clowns and magicians, and lots of spooky prizes for the participants.
Insider's Tip: It only costs $5 dollars to take a cab anywhere within the 1-mile square area of Hoboken, so feel free to hail and hop around.
