The 2012 Fiat 500 Abarth: A Small Car That Drives Like A Race Car And Stings Like A Scorpion
Who said high performance cars have to be big and long? Fiat disproves this fact with the new Fiat 500 Abarth, a small car with a huge appetite for speed and power. It has recently earned praise from car critics—and it’s not only because of its scorpion logo.
Its name came from Carlo Abarth, a naturalized Italian car designer who started the Abarth & C. Company in 1949. Although Fiat bought the company in 1971, the spirit of Abarth’s racing skill still lives on to this day. In fact, in Europe, there’s a dedicated racing event exclusively for Abarth cars called the Trofeo Abarth 500. Today, Abarth’s pride and joy has finally arrived in North America and can most likely be found in your nearest car dealership.
One car critic for Top Gear says the Fiat 500 Abarth “wasn’t made to be driven calmly”, as it has a beast of an engine under its hood. Its 1.4-liter MultiAir engine, capable of dishing out at least 160 horsepower, was dubbed as the Best International Engine in 2010 by journalists around the world. While the stats may not be sports car material, it’s enough to make a small car race.
Made ...
... and patented by Fiat, the MultiAir engine design relies on a “more air, less fuel” approach in providing raw power. The design enhances the flow of air into the combustion chamber which helps in getting more out of every drop while reducing harmful emissions. Fiat claims that the system can reduce emissions by 60 percent, while providing 10 percent more power.
The 1.4-liter displacement in the new engine also helps improve fuel economy, as it uses less fuel per cycle. With its small body and fuel-efficient MultiAir engine, the Fiat 500 Abarth has a fuel consumption of 6.19 L/100km for highway driving and 7.84 L/100km for city driving. This natural-born racer, which would eventually be available in Edmonton used car dealerships, is the car for avid car aficionados who like the rush.
It’s a good thing the Fiat 500 Abarth was made available for export in the U.S. and Canada. The Canadian car fans hungry for power and performance will find the new Abarth a humble car that stings when you least expect it. Edmonton used car dealers are looking forward to sell such an iconic vegicle.
For more information about the new Fiat 500 Abarth, you can visit the official website of Fiat’s Canada headquarters at FiatCanada.com. It won’t take long before one of the Edmonton used car dealerships have it on display to let you see for yourself if it really is all that and then some.
