We have all heard the question. How do you shop for a man who has everything?

Certainly this is a conundrum when you can't think outside of the old, outdated gift-giving paradigm. Why does your gift have to be something he needs or even something he wants? These are rarely cool gifts.

Gifts for men need to be unusually cool. Cool like 'Mad Men'. Cool like Johnny Depp. Would you buy Johnny Depp a tie? No.

So what are cool gifts?

Trust me when I tell you cool gifts for men are very, very different than cool gifts for women or children. But they do oddly have some similarities.

Here is your checklist:

1) Humor: The gift must contain some form of humor. Maybe not the traditional ...
... humor like laugh out loud stand-up comic humor. But something in the gift must make him smile. Think nostalgia, simplicity, and escape. These are the things that make grown men smile.

2) Toy-like: The truly great gifts for men have some element of juvenile fun attached or associated with them. Gifts for men are so often filled with responsibility like a lawn mower or cuff links. Yuck... they scream pressure and deadlines and meetings.

3) Nostalgic: Men like to remember the time when they were boys. It is really that simple. Cool Gifts for men will take them to a place in a distant part of their lives. The gift doesn't need to be vintage or retro to accomplish this goal. It just needs to be cool.

I am not saying you should go out and purchase something cheap or campy. No one thinks this is cool. But do your best to find something that, for just a moment, will take him to a place in the past, a place that makes him smile and a place that lets him play.

Over the next decade we will see some of the most amazing things invented. But for now you can still find the best gadgets out there if you take a little time and do a little homework. And I intend to do everything I can to make the most of this opportunity and find them each the best gifts ever.

It is a lot of pressure these days being a man. Today's gifts for men can be the one thing that helps break through this pressure and provide an escape. Even if its only for a brief moment.
