There are many enterprise applications that are being developed with the intent of possessing flexible, dashboard-style presentation of visual data. Visual data usually includes graphs, bar charts and similar visual display projects. Users now desire flexibility that would enable them to rearrange information that any dashboard shows to suit everyone’s needs.
Oracle ADF development team can use Java Server Faces (JSF) layout container, which is the panel Dashboard component of the Oracle Application Development Framework. Oracle ADF development team is aware that panel Dashboard component lends support to different types of child or sub components that can be managed into columns and rows of equal sizes.
There is a method through which Oracle application development team can change the default layout behavior of Oracle ADF Faces panel Dashboard component so that it allows the users to rearrange information as per their needs. This article will focus on the different steps of the process of making the essential changes to a baseline application so that it ultimately supports personalization across applications.

The sample application workspace features a panel dashboard page that makes use of gauges and graphs in Data Visualization Tools to depict salary information in a static grid.

Instances of the Oracle ADF Faces af:panelBox component are used as immediate child components of the af:panelDashboard to form a two-row, two-column grid.
There are two folders in the zip file:
AdfDashboardCompleted contains the Oracle JDeveloper 11g Release 2 (11.1.2.2) workspace for the completed application.
AdfDashboardHandsOn contains the starter workspace
Step by Step process for Oracle ADF development team
Oracle Application Development team has to follow these steps and they include:
the o32adf-1549375.zip has to be unzipped into a directory on the local machine
Oracle JDeveloper 11g Release 2 has to be launched and then from Oracle JDeveloper menu, select File -> Open and select the directory that contains the unpacked sample application.
Open the Adf Dashboard Hands On folder and then the Panel Dashboard folder, and select the Panel Dashboard.jws file.
When the Open tab is clicked upon, the workspace opens the Oracle Jdeveloper
From the Oracle JDeveloper menu, select View ->Database ->Database Navigator.
It is important to expand the Panel Dhasboard node
The hrconn node has to be right clicked and Properties from context menu has to be selected. The database connection information that will work with the setup has to be edited and then the changes have to applied before the user clicks on OK to close the properties box
In the Application Navigator, expand the View Controller project node to display the Application Sources and Web Content folders.
Expand the Web Content folder, click the DashBoardPage.jspx file within it to select it, right-click it, and select Run from the context menu.
Enabling Personalization
MDS is the engine for customization and personalization and is basically a repository-based customization framework that is intricately integrated with the Oracle ADF request lifecycle.
There are two levels of personalization available and they include:
Per-user personalization
Seeded personalization where different UI components and data are offered in different users.
In order to activate the user personalization, Oracle Application Development team needs to follow the following steps:
Click the View Controller project node, which is there in the Application Navigator
Oracle ADF development team needs to right-click View Controller and then choose Project Properties from the context menu
Click on ADF View in the project properties dialog box
Click on Enabler User Customizations checkbox on the ADF View panel
Click on Across Session using MDS
Finally click OK to save the settings and then close Project Properties page
