General Motors India is gearing up to launch the replacement of its dud seller Chevrolet Aveo-U-VA hatchback, Chevrolet Sail in India. Rumours suggest that the hatchback could be launched in India in the month of July, that is this month only. The compact started the year with the launch of Chevrolet Tavera Neo 3 launch which was a facelift version of the MPV, after Tavera Neo 3, Chevrolet launch the new and improved Captiva SUV and Cruze premium sedan in India.
After spawning facelifts in the domestic market Chevrolet is now all set for some action, the company will be launching three new products in the Indian car market in the year 2012 which include Chevrolet Sail hatchback, this would be the first new car to be launched from Chevrolet. After Sail hatchback, Chevrolet Sail sedan will be rendered followed by Chevrolet Enjoy MPV during Diwali. It seems that Chevrolet India is on a launch spree and has decided to give a revamp to its portfolio in India. Looking at the sluggish demand for Chevrolet Aveo hatchback and sedan, GM India decided to bring the replacements for both the cars in order to rev up sales in the respective segments. Chevrolet has Chevrolet Spark hatchback, Chevrolet Beat hatchback and Chevrolet Aveo U-VA in the hatchback segment. Spark and beat are doing fine but Aveo has been a dud seller from the very beginning, the company will place Chevrolet Sail above Beat. Chevrolet Sail India price will also be placed above Chevrolet Beat.
Th company officials have confirmed that Sail hatchback and sedan will be replacing the Aveo hatchback and sedan. Sail hatchback will be named Sail U-VA. As far as the Chevrolet Sail specifications are concerned, the hatchback will be packed with a 1.4 litre petrol motor and a 1.3 litre diesel mill. The multijet diesel mill will be outsourced from Fiat India. Presence of diesel version will multiply the possibilities of Sail performing well in the domestic market, since Aveo was not present in diesel version therefore it proved to be one major drawback in the hatchback’s success. Being a part of the premium hatchback segment, the hatchback is expected to rival the likes of Maruti Swift, Renault Pulse, Toyota Etios Liva, Hyundai i20 etc.
No matter how many SUVs come in India, hatchback will still be the first love of the Indian buyers. It is somehow mandatory to have a hatchback in every car maker’s clan which ensures success in the Indian car market. Chevrolet too is hoping to soar volumes with the new hatchback in its stable. Nothing much has been revealed about the hatchback though, details will be revealed slowly as the launch will near. We hope that Sail does what Aveo could not do for GM India’s sales.
