Franchise Overview
The franchise began as an expansion club in 1967-68 in Seattle. As the city's first major pro sports team, the Seattle Supersonics were embraced in the Pacific Northwest. In the early going, the club experienced some predictable struggles. In 1974-75, the Supersonics reached the playoffs for the first time. Over the next two decades, Seattle would become one of the most solid squads in the league. From 1974-75 to 1997-98, the team missed the postseason just five times.
In the last decade, some problems began to develop in Seattle. On the floor, the team became mediocre, with just three trips to the playoffs from 1998-99 to 2007-08. Also, the owners of the franchise were not satisfied with the home arena of the Supersonics.

In the history of the franchise, guard Fred Brown, center Jack Sikma, guard Gary Payton and forward Kevin Durant have been some of the most outstanding players for the team.
Franchise's Championship Season
Led by guards Dennis Johnson and Gus Williams, the 1977-78 Supersonics reached the NBA Finals, but lost against the Washington Bullets. In the following season, the two squads met again in the finals. This time, Seattle came out on top to claim a championship.
In 1995-96, Payton led the Supersonics to a Western Conference title. In the finals, Seattle fell to the Chicago Bulls.
Home Arena
The Thunder has played at the Oklahoma City Arena (capacity of 18,213) since arriving in the city in 2008. Oklahoma City Thunder tickets enable fans to enjoy a great evening of pro hoops.
