Small companies around the nation have suffered for the past few years. Running a business has its own costs, which seem to have been on the rise. So many people seem to be expecting a bargain with every buy, and they're spending less and less overall. The mixture of these elements spells disaster for most small companies. Margins are very tight already, but these factors are forcing them to really push the envelope as far as seeing what kinds of margins they can survive with. Money is tight, and people are demanding better and better deals. This is forcing small businesses to compete with the likes of Walmart and Target, who can afford slimmer margins. People can't afford to lose customers, so keeping them happy has become a huge priority for small businesses. Simply put, these business owners need assistance. Some small business loans and funding alternatives are out there, but they may just be making it harder for business owners to survive in the long run. Some of these programs are not worth it, simply because of how much they cost. Businesses need operating capital, and ...
... working capital. It's just always been that way. They require operating capital that's not going to cost them an arm and a leg, or some type of assistance that will have an immediate influence with out requiring an immediate hindrance to money flow. Businesses need long term financing, so that the direct impact on their immediate cashflow is minimal. And on the flip side, it should not exist as that's how the banks got into trouble in the first place. The government has made small attempts to come up with some solutions for small businesses, but the majority of their plans are narrow minded and focuses specifically on one kind of business or another. Most businesses, obviously, have not gotten any bailouts from the government. So who's going to help you out, as a small business owner? There aren't a lot of people doing this right now. Periodically independent lenders and other monetary firms pop up and survive just long enough to learn that most business owners use of funds isn't growth-oriented enough to afford the costly return on the investment. In other words, lending doesn't work. The situation gets worse because people who are borrowing are not lasting long enough to repay the loan. As a result, lenders have to charge more in order to make up for the bad debt. There just doesn't seem to be enough money to go around for everyone. So let's have the government print more, right? Inflation is another major concern. In addition to inflation, there are even some people concerned with deflation. The value of the US dollar is currently faltering, printing more cash, risking prices increasing will decrease the value of the dollar, as will any kind of across the board deflation. What is there to do about this? Or more importantly, what do THEY do? While it affects us all, there are only a handful of people that can actually do anything to affect our economy.
