Sexes Get Bashed In Bed

Many things keep us awake at night, from money worries and issues at work to affairs of the heart. But a new NOP poll commissioned by Silentnight Beds, reveals there may be a new reason why us Brits are having a restless night's sleep and waking up a little worse for wear.
Silentnight Beds, have uncovered a new bed phenomenon, ‘Bed Bashing', as the poll reveals that a quarter of Brits regularly get bashed in bed by their partners.
Unintentional ‘bed bashing' has resulted in Brits having more interrupted sleep then ever before, with young professionals aged 25-34 years old being the age group who receive the most bashing in bed.
Of those who are on the receiving end of accidental ‘bashing' 10% of those state they have suffered actual injuries, with 5% questioned actually receiving a black eye! Bruising to other bodily parts come in close behind at 8%.
Women are most frequently injured by their partners, with over one quarter claiming that they have been beaten in bed whilst asleep, naming men as the worst offenders.
And, it seems the Welsh are the ones that are getting bashed ...
... more than any other region, with a whopping 37% confessing to be regularly bashed while trying to snooze.
All this is contributing to a nation that is functioning on less and less sleep. When Silentnight asked how many hours sleep Brits can function on at work 29% confessed to going on less than 4 hours sleep. Whereas in comparison, only 6% stated they needed the recommended 8 hours.
London seems to be the city that literally doesn't sleep, with a massive 38% stating they regularly function on less than 4 hours sleep, with the average time being 6-7 hours across the rest of the UK.
Professor Jim Horne of Loughborough Sleep Research Centre comments: Whatever their age, men naturally tend to be 'lighter' sleepers than women and move about more in bed. Young men are the worst in this respect, especially if their sleep is more fitful through work and other stresses - all in all, a 'double whammy' for their bed partner.
Steven Simpson, Brand Manager at Silentnight says: Bed bashing has affected a huge number of Brits and seems to be becoming a common phenomenon. It is interesting that young professionals and men are the biggest offenders, indicating that restlessness whilst asleep may be down to pressure at work or stress in every day life.
He continues: There are a number of things that we can do to try to prevent injuries in bed, the most effective being investing in a larger bed, as most adults need at least a king size bed to ensure that they have enough space to facilitate an effective night's sleep. Or a Miracoil bed which features no roll together, so partners can have their own sleeping surface to prevent Bed Bashing.
