Human beings can survive in any temperature, but there is optimum temperature which is most comfortable for living. The temperature varies widely depending on the season and on geographical placement. There are places of human habitation that see a wide variation in temperature like either it is too low or too high which is not comfortable for living. Many techniques are used to bring these extremes in a normal range. Underfloor Heating is one of the methods used to bring the building to a habitable temperature range.

Underfloor heating is used to achieve an optimum range of temperature in the building by conduction method, radiation method or convection method. This helps in maintaining the temperature of the building to a comfortable level with Floor Heating. This is achieved by two methods. One method is using electrical resistance elements and the other is hydronic systems. In the electrical resistance method, electrical cables are used for heating while in hydronic system, water circulated through the pipes. The major difference between ...
... the two is electrical resistance can only be made use of for heating the floor whereas hydronic system can be used for both heating and cooling. In this method of underfloor heating, the floor becomes heated. The water based system of heating is found to be economical compared to central heating systems. It is more effective when continuously used. The floor heating systems are generally placed below the floor and a covering is provided above the heating system. This makes is slower in getting heated up initially. Upon starting the process, the time taken for heating up the floor is about an hour, which is a drawback in this system of heating.

In both the methods, an insulation layer is laid on the existing flooring, then floor heating elements are laid and an upper layer of flooring is provided. This method prevents flow of heat into the ground and helps in warming a house faster.
