From Haridwar To Badrinath - The Abode Of Badrinarayan
The route from Haridwar to Badrinath covers places such as Rishikesh, Dehradun, and Mussorie. The holy towns of Kedarnath and Badrinath, the abode of Lord Vishnu, are a must visit for all Hindus in their life time. Badrinath is also one of the ‘Char Dhams’ set up by Adi Shankaracharya. Owing to the high altitude and the inclement weather, the Badrinarayan temple is opened only during April to November. Interestingly, Lord Vishnu is depicted in a meditative position rather than the reposing position that is predominant in every other temple. This statue is 3 feet 3 inches and is composed of the sacred Saligrama stone. It is vastly believed that this statue rose on its own.
The pilgrims who visit Badrinath also visit the other holy places of Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri. The combined pilgrimage is also termed as the Chota Char Dham. One interesting feature of the Badrinath temple is the ‘Tapt Kund’, a natural hot water spring that miraculously maintains 45 degrees round the year. It is presumed to possess medicinal ...
... properties, and a bath in the spring is deemed essential by the devotees before entering the temple.
The Narayan Palace
One of the leading Badrinath hotels is the Narayan Palace, which is in close proximity to the temple. It is one of the renowned hotels in Badrinath and is chosen by several celebrities who visit Badrinath. The hotel offers different categories of suites depending upon the clientele and has a fully functional restaurant that offers a wide range of cuisine. The rooms are spacious and offer a splendid view of the snow capped Badrinath Mountain. Besides being close to the temple, the hotel has a dedicated room service. It has a separate travel desk, medical facilities, and also renders yoga and meditation sessions. Running hot water, TV, lift, and telephone services are also available on the premises.
The Sarovar Portico
The Sarovar Portico comes under the 3 star category and is located at a distance of half a kilometer from the Badrinath temple. It houses 56 rooms and also has a restaurant rendering several vegetarian cuisines. The rooms offer a splendid view of the Nilkanth peaks and the hotel also has an Ayurveda healing centre. Each room has a safe, a coffee/tea maker, and cable or DTH connection. The hotel also provides bottled water and newspapers to its guests.
People travelling back from Badrinath to Delhi have to travel by road to Rishikesh for their onward train journey. The Jolly Grant Airport is the nearest air link, which has flights to Delhi and other parts of the country as well.
